Batch Endowment Fund of the 1999 Batch - through Memoria99

“Sustainable Higher Education Through Collective Alumni Support”

INTRODUCTION

Madras Christian College (MCC) has a rich history of fostering academic excellence and nurturing bright minds. The Alumni and Development Office (A&DO) at MCC plays a crucial role in building connections between past graduates and the institution, creating opportunities for alumni engagement, and supporting current students through various initiatives.

We take pride in fostering a community that thrives on mutual support and shared responsibility. As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1999 batch, we are inspired to create a lasting legacy through “The 1999 Batch Endowment Fund.” This fund aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students, ensuring they have the resources to pursue their education and fulfill their potential.

This Endowment Fund ultimately aims to perpetually provide financial assistance to the various welfare schemes, development activities of the college infrastructure and faculties, and to the deserving students enabling the entire ecosystem to achieve academic excellence and also support in a rounded growth and secure a brighter future. Contributions from alumni and donors are critical to the sustainability and expansion, ensuring that no deserving student is left behind due to financial limitations.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

  • Clear identification of the need or problem

Despite our best efforts to make education accessible, many underprivileged students face financial barriers that hinder their academic progress. The rising costs of tuition, accommodation, and living expenses have created challenges for a significant number of students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

To address this, we propose establishing a Batch Endowment Fund that will offer targeted support through impactful programs.

The contributions to the Batch Endowment Fund will lead to accumulation of a corpus fund whose interest will be directed towards the many of the key student welfare initiatives like;

  • Manna Scheme

Providing free lunch for underprivileged students, ensuring their nutritional needs are met while they focus on academics.

  • Support a Manipur Student

Covering tuition and hostel fees for deserving students from Manipur, helping them overcome financial hurdles and achieve their academic goals.

  • Foster a Student

Offering comprehensive tuition and hostel fee support to promising students in need, enabling them to excel in their studies without financial worries.

OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

  • To alleviate the financial burden on economically disadvantaged students.

  • To create a sustainable funding mechanism that benefits current and future generations of MCC students.

  • To foster a sense of alumni solidarity and responsibility towards our alma mater.

METHODOLOGY

  • Identification of Benefitting Programs & Schemes: After careful assessment of the multitude of the welfare schemes, available funding opportunities and the various departmental financial needs and the overall potential of the available funds, the most suitable scheme/funding need will be selected to be benefited from this endowment fund each year, by a committee consisting of the college management and the alumni batch representatives.

  • Fund Management: The fund will be managed transparently, with regular updates provided to contributors.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: The impact of the fund will be assessed annually to ensure its effectiveness and to refine the programs as needed.

IMPACT

The Batch Endowment Fund will create a ripple effect of positive change:

  • Underprivileged students will have access to essential resources, fostering academic success.

The fund ensures the sustainability of educational opportunities for students. By securing and allocating funds specifically for scholarships, the program creates a stable financial resource that students can rely on annually. This long-term financial planning guarantees that the scholarship can support multiple cohorts of students, enabling continuous access to higher education for those in need.

  • Alumni contributions will help build a more inclusive and equitable campus environment.

Alumni contributions will play a pivotal role in creating an inclusive and equitable campus by breaking financial barriers for underprivileged students. By supporting initiatives like free meals, tuition, and hostel fee waivers, alumni ensure that deserving students from diverse backgrounds can access quality education and thrive in a supportive environment.

  • The fund will serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of the 1999 batch.

This endowment fund will stand as a tribute to the unity and vision of the 1999 batch, symbolizing their commitment to giving back to their alma mater. It will act as a positive projection to the legacy, reflecting the batch's dedication to nurturing future generations and fostering a culture of support and opportunity at MCC.

  • Amplified Reach and Impact

With a robust endowment fund, we support a larger number of student welfare and development initiatives each year. As the fund grows, the capacity to assist more students increases, thereby amplifying the overall impact of the project. This scalability allows the program to broaden its scope & reach, potentially covering more educational expenses or expanding to support additional educational needs, such as books, technology, and extracurricular activities, thus enhancing the overall educational experience for the recipients.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Plan for assessing the progress and impact of the project

  • Regular progress reports from project beneficiaries or scholarship recipients.

  • Annual reviews of impact or academic performance and retention rates.

Indicators to track success

  • Number of scholarships awarded/programs benefited.

  • Academic or Technical achievements of recipients.

  • Graduation and employment rates of scholarship recipients.

Evaluation methods

  • Surveys and feedback from recipients.

  • Data analysis of academic, career and other outcomes.

  • Regular meetings with mentors and advisors to track progress and address any challenges.

BUDGET

A detailed budget and projected impact will be shared upon request from the alumni batch representatives. Contributions will be directed exclusively towards the programs listed, ensuring maximum benefit to the students in need.

BENEFICIARIES

The primary beneficiaries of this fund will be underprivileged students at MCC and or the various initiatives/units/departments at MCC aimed to nurture the quality of life and education of students. With the support of the alumni community, these students can pursue their dreams and contribute meaningfully to society.
