About MCC

Madras Christian College (MCC) was founded in 1837 as the General Assembly School, pioneering English medium education in South India. Renamed MCC in 1877, it moved to Tambaram in 1937. Under Principal Dr. Chandran Devanesen, it gained autonomy in 1978, offering innovative courses. In 1999, the Self-Financed Stream started, emphasizing employability. CBCS was introduced in 2003–2004. The college celebrated key milestones, including its 125th year visited by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and its 150th year with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In 2012, the Quartosept Centennial celebrations were marked by the presence of the then-Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari. MCC was re-accredited by NAAC in 2013 and awarded 'College with Potential for Excellence' in 2016. MCC Boyd-Tandon School of Business was established in 2016. The college excels in solar energy usage and inaugurated the MCC-MRF Innovation Park in 2021. Initiatives like MCC IIC and MCC EDC promote innovation and entrepreneurship. The pandemic saw MCC's proactive response through the MCC Covid Task Force and tele-counseling center, earning recognition. In 2022, MCC expanded its facilities with the Meston Centre for Teaching and Learning, MCCMRF Innovation Park Prototype, and more. As of now, the college is affiliated with 12 institutions, like the MCC Public School in Chetpet and the MCC Rural Service League School. It remains committed to academic excellence, spiritual vitality, and social relevance.

The college has also put forward various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives as a way to give back to the society. These include educational programs, environmental conservation efforts, healthcare initiatives, community development projects, and collaborations with NGOs and government agencies. The MCC Pulicat Community College and the MCC Kotagiri Community College are two such ventures through which the college aims to make a positive impact on society, aligning with its values of academic excellence and social relevance.

With regards to global outreach, Madras Christian College (MCC) offers a range of international programs and exchange opportunities, fostering global connections and cross-cultural learning. The Deanery of International Programmes facilitates student and staff exchanges with world-class universities and institutions. MCC welcomes students from various countries for graduate and postgraduate studies, while its students and staff participate in semester abroad and cross-cultural programs. The Student Exchange Program with LeTourneau University (LETU) in the USA allows MCC students to pursue academic opportunities abroad. The requirements for applying include being a current MCC student in the second undergraduate program, possessing a valid Indian passport until 2023, and obtaining consent from parents or guardians. MCC's Centre for International Social Work provides a cross-cultural context for social work through international programs, including fieldwork placements and collaborations with universities worldwide.

The Emblem

The college emblem features a hand with three fingers raised in blessing, symbolizing its philosophy. The anchor, representing firmness and reliance in turbulent times, takes the form of a cross. The Latin motto, 'In hoc signo', recalls Constantine the Great's vision of a cross before battle, emphasizing victory through faith. This event inspires the college's ethos, anchoring its existence on the promise of triumph.
